A silver rouble of the Russian Empire, dated 1843 and struck at the St Petersburg Mint during the reign of Emperor Nicholas I (1825-1855).
The obverse bears the denomination «МОНЕТА РУБЛЬ» (ROUBLE COIN) at the centre, surmounted by the Imperial Crown. The composition is framed by a wreath of laurel and oak branches tied with a ribbon. Below are the date «1843» and the St Petersburg Mint mark «С.П.Б.».
The reverse displays the state emblem of the Russian Empire, comprising the crowned double-headed Imperial eagle with raised wings. Upon the eagle`s breast is a shield depicting St George the Victory-Bearer, surrounded by the coats of arms of the territories of the Russian Empire. The eagle holds the sceptre and orb in its talons. The surrounding legend records the prescribed silver content: «ЧИСТАГО СЕРЕБРА 4 ЗОЛОТН. 21 ДОЛЯ» (PURE SILVER 4 ZOLOTNIKS 21 DOLYAS). Beneath the eagle are the mintmaster`s initials «А Ч».
