FRENCH CARRIAGE CLOCK WITH PORCELAIN PANELS IN THE THIRD ROCOCO STYLE. FRANCE, LATE 19TH CENTURY

Elegant French carriage clock dating from the late 19th century, housed in a brass case inset with gilt and hand-painted porcelain panels in the Third Rococo style. The architecturally balanced rectangular case, fitted with bevelled glass panels, is further embellished with richly decorated porcelain plaques characteristic of high-quality objects produced during the Historicist period.

The porcelain panels are painted against a delicate pink ground and decorated with oval cartouches depicting playful putti among garlands of roses, vine leaves and fruit. Executed with a light and spontaneous brush, these compositions evoke the atmosphere of 18th-century fêtes galantes, drawing inspiration from Rococo decorative art and the refined aesthetic of the French boudoir.

The white enamel dial, with Roman hour numerals and Arabic minute divisions, is protected by bevelled glass. The clock is fitted with a high-quality Swiss eight-day movement, distinguished by its precision and reliability. The upper plate of the movement is inscribed Made in Switzerland, while the interior of the case bears the maker’s mark ACC with an arrow.

Combining the refined decorative language of French design with the traditionally high standards of Swiss clockmaking, the present clock will appeal both to collectors of European decorative timepieces and to connoisseurs of Belle Époque decorative arts.
