19th Century Mantel Clock from the French Empire Era

Large Empire period mantel clock - Restoration dating from the beginning of the 19th century (circa 1800-1810) in chased gilt bronze with exceptional gilding quality. An antique character is seated above the dial and holds a scroll in his left hand and a very finely chased lyre in his right hand. The details of the drapery, the face, the sandals are carefully worked, alternating between matt and shiny gilt bronze. His attributes suggest that he is probably Apollo, god of the arts and patron of the muses who also embodies youth, beauty and harmony. Indeed, references to Antiquity are part of the imperial language under the reign of Napoleon I who uses them as symbols of power. The circular dial framed by rosettes is in gilded and silvered bronze. It displays Roman numerals and rests on a large rectangular base with a decorative relief in protrusion. It depicts trumpets, laurels and a crown, also contributing to the military and royal symbolism characteristic of the Empire style. This sumptuous clock will be a choice decoration to enhance a classic interior on a fireplace or on a chest of drawers in a bedroom or an entrance hall. Our master watchmaker can have it completely revised for an additional cost of €500.
