HANGING OIL LAMP DESIGNED BY SERGEI VASHKOV. P.I. OLOVYANISHNIKOV & SONS RUSSIAN EMPIRE, MOSCOW, 1911
An exquisite hanging oil lamp executed after an original design by Sergei Ivanovich Vashkov, one of the leading masters of Moscow Art Nouveau and a key reformer of ecclesiastical artistic language in the early 20th century. The composition is distinguished by its refined architectonics and a carefully balanced interplay between structural clarity and decorative expressiveness. A domed finial surmounted by a cross crowns a system of chains supporting a circular mount with a central deep-blue glass vessel. The lamp exemplifies Vashkov’s characteristic synthesis of Byzantine tradition, Old Russian heritage, and Art Nouveau aesthetics.Materials: Brass, blue glass, green glass beads.Dimensions: Length: 60 cm.
