The seven-armed icon of the Mother of God, an icon of the Mother of God revered in the Orthodox Church. The celebration of the icon takes place on August 13. The prototype of the icon comes from the Toshenskaya St. John the Theological Church in the vicinity of Vologda on the banks of the Toshnya River.
The Icon of the Mother of God, called "Deliverance from the Troubles of the Suffering" The name of the icon is based on the faith of Christians that the Mother of God helps to get rid of troubles and misfortunes to all who pray to Her for help. So, in the canon of prayer to the Most Holy Theotokos there are the words: "Theotokos, Lady, hurry and deliver us from troubles" (Canto 3). Sometimes the image is called "Deliverance from the troubles of the suffering"
The icon "Our Lady of Sickness and Sorrows", called "Quench my sorrows", became famous in Moscow for many miracles since the second half of the 18th century, and especially during the plague in 1771. The icon was brought to Moscow by the Cossacks in 1640 during the reign of Mikhail Feodorovich (1613-1645) and placed in the church of St. Nicholas on Pupyshi in Sadovniki.
