Pair of commodes in the Louis XV style, marquetry and gilt bronze, 19th century

A delightful pair of Gustavian commodes in the Louis XV style, based on the commode by Swedish master Georg Haupt, who trained in Paris and London. The original version can be seen in the Nordiska Museum in Stockholm, Sweden. Each chest has three drawers: the smaller top drawer is adorned with a bronze frieze. The two upper drawers open with small rings and feature a rosewood marquetry decoration with a central putto playing a flute, around which laurel garlands wrap or unfurl. The rounded canted uprights are adorned with ormolu falls decorated with a mans head. The four legs are arched and sheathed with bronze sabots, the edges concealed by stylized rushes. Beautifully curved royal red marble top. These two small chests of drawers will bring a discreet yet elegant and refined presence to a large entrance hall or bedroom.
