GOLD AND ENAMEL TOBACCOKER 18k 18th century, GUIDON, REMOND & GIDE c. 1790 Exceptional Swiss snuffbox made of 18 carat gold with 18th century enamel, round shape, the scene "Choice of Hercules” is subtly painted on the cover, the boy Hercules is hidden in the trees, observing virtue and vice, while the poet waits to write down your decision. Two women personify the opposite destinies that life can offer him: on the left, Virtue calls him on the most difficult path leading to glory through adversity, and the second, a woman with worldly pleasures, an easier path, seduces him to vice. Has the stigma of the manufacturer Guidon, Remond & Gide.
