VLADIMIR KONSTANTINOVICH YANOVSKY (1876–1966). CRIMEAN LANDSCAPE RUSSIA, EARLY 20TH CENTURY

The painting Crimean Landscape was created by the distinguished Crimean artist Vladimir Konstantinovich Yanovsky (1876–1966), known as the “master of the sunny palette” for his remarkable ability to convey the brilliance and warmth of southern light. His art merges Russian realism with European impressionism, resulting in works of freshness and vitality.

This composition depicts a historic Tatar street in Bakhchisarai (in the style of Gaspirinsky Street), bathed in sunlight and enlivened by local inhabitants. White stone houses with eastern architectural features, together with scenes of everyday life, form a harmonious whole. In the background rises the flat-topped mountain Tepe-Kermen, a landmark southeast of the town, providing a distinctive landscape accent.

Yanovsky employs fluid brushstrokes and a saturated palette to achieve the effect of shimmering air and luminous reflections. Subtle half-tones add spatial depth, while refined color work conveys atmospheric perspective. The painting belongs to the mature period of his oeuvre, when he achieved the greatest clarity of form and expression. Works of this kind are rare on the art market and highly prized for their freshness and unique embodiment of Crimean impressionism.
