Julie Nangala Robertson, Ngapa Jukurrpa, Acrylic on canvas, 2015
ABOUT THE WORK NGAPA DREAMINGIn her paintings, Julie Nangala represents “Pirlinyanu”, her fathers land of which she is the custodian, close to Mina Mina, a rocky land rich in deep-water springs. Through her work on the Dream of Water, she develops her own pictorial language, continuing the research carried out by her mother, Dorothy Napangardi, on color contrasts. Her canvases are minimalist, innovative and very often painted with just two or three colors (mainly white, black and red), reminiscent of the white traces left on the ochre soil by the salt that is so characteristic of this land.ABOUT JULIE NANGALA ROBINSONJulie Nangala Robertson, also known as Robinson, was born in 1973 in Yuendumu (Northern Territory, Australia).
