А. Gesele

In 1879, "temporarily merchant of the second guild" A. Zhesel opened in St. Petersburg (at 45 Gorokhovaya Street) a "Workshop and shop of frames". In the workshop, frames with stucco applied ornaments and carvings were made, as well as the restoration of old artistic frames. The workshop′s products were varied: from products with typical, frequently encountered ornamental elements to original, one-of-a-kind. So, attention is drawn to the frame from the collection of the Russian Museum, made in the workshop of A. Zhesel. A peculiar ornament made of mastic, made in a low relief and covered with gold leaf, imitates chasing on metal. All the artistic frames of A. Jesel′s workshop were stuck with a branded paper label (on the back side), sometimes a small mastic strip with the name of the Frenchman is found on the end of the frames. The products of the workshop are of very good quality, so it is not surprising that over time A. Jesel was honored to become a supplier to the imperial court.
