The company for the production of scientific and laboratory instruments was founded before 1897. The company traded on Great Charles Street in Birmingham until 1928. In 1897 it was taken over by F. E. Becker & Co., retaining its original name until early 1950, when it was renamed W. & J. George & Becker Ltd. The company is now succeeded by Griffin & George when W. & J. George & Becker Ltd merged with Griffin & Tatlock.
