Grachev Vasily Yakovlevich

Grachev Vasily Yakovlevich was a Russian sculptor. Born in December 1831, in the village of Berestyanka, Yaroslavl province, into a family of state peasants. As a boy, he was apprenticed to the court chasing master Andreev, and spent his youth in St. Petersburg. For six years he studied the techniques and technology of working with metal. He was engaged in sculpture as a self-taught. Made wax models for K.F. Werfel, P.A. Ovchinnikova, I.P. Khlebnikov, under the brand name of the institutions of which most of his works are known, translated into silver and bronze. These works have been repeatedly awarded at various art and industrial exhibitions. In 1885 he opened his own studio-studio, performed with independent works at the St. Petersburg craft exhibition. He received an honorary silver medal for the sculptural composition At the Watering Hole presented at the exhibition. Known as one of the leading Russian masters of small plastic arts of the 19th century. The main themes of the works are genre scenes and military-historical episodes. He died on May 26 (June 7), 1905, in St. Petersburg.
