Jean-Gabriel Domergue

Jean-Gabriel Domergue (March 4, 1889 - November 16, 1962) is the author of the last distinctive and recognizable phenomenon of impressionism. French artist Jean-Gabriel Domergue was a student of Edgar Degas and Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec. He became famous as a portrait painter and poet of Parisian women. His wide-eyed, narrow-necked character has taken over the world since the 1920s, becoming an example of irony and new grace.

Jean-Gabriel Domergue was born in Bordeaux, where he studied at the National Graduate School of Fine Arts.

Since the 20s, the artist has specialized in painting portraits. Considered the founder of pinup. One of the artist′s directions was working on the design of clothes for couturier Paul Poiret. In 1939, the author creates an advertising poster for the debut Cannes Film Festival, which was interrupted in September 1939 due to the outbreak of World War II. From 1955 to 1962 he is the curator of the Jacquemart-André Museum, organizing exhibitions of works by Van Gogh, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Francisco Goya and others. For services to France, Domergue was awarded the Commander of the Order of the Legion of Honor.

Jean-Gabriel Domergue died on November 16, 1962 in Paris.
