Order of the White Rose. Knights Cross. Finland

The Order of the White Rose, one of Finland′s highest awards, was established by Mannerheim on January 28, 1919. Awarded for "service for the benefit of the state and people." The name of the order is associated with the white roses on the country′s coat of arms.

Only Marshal KG Mannerheim was awarded the Grand Cross with diamonds and Swords (on the order chain). Prior to World War II, members of the Finnish government were awarded the Grand Cross with diamonds: Senator Otto Stenroth, diplomat Karl Enckel and professor, composer Jan Sibelius. The Grand Cross with Swords was awarded during the Second World War to Hjalmar Siilasvuo, Edward Hanell and Axel Airo) and the German general E. Dietl. In 1963, the statute of the order was changed - the Cross of Merit was added and the criteria for awarding the order to women were determined. The order was designed by renowned Finnish artist Akseli Gallen-Kallela. In total, the Order had ten classes. Insignia (medals) were issued with swords, strips, or without them, crosses and stars were with swords or also without them, and were also made on pendants in the form of chains. Since 1963, women have also been nominated for the award. In addition to the usual versions of awards, there were their miniature versions.
